2024 Projects/Goals Reflection

It’s hard to believe I’m writing this post. It feels like just yesterday I sat down to write the 2023 recap, and now here I am writing the one for this year.

If you are new to my blog, every year, I set goals for myself. I’ll do another post soon for 2025 and talk more about how I set goals then, but this post is all about this past year.

You can find my original post on this year’s Projects/Goals here:

Summary of my Projects from 2024:

  1. By December 31, 2024, I will continue to strengthen my writing skills by writing and/or editing in the series I have at least 80% of the time, as measured weekly.

I met this goal, averaging 83%. This means I either wrote and/or edited in my series an average of 83% of the time each week. I was able to add more writing to several of the series I am working on, built a strong routine, and began editing some of what I’ve already written. This was my strongest area this year, and something I hope to keep up next year!

2. By December 31, 2024, I will complete cardio exercise for at least 30 minutes at least 80% of the time, and weight and stretch training exercises at least 40% of the time each, as measured weekly.

I met this goal 48% of the time total, and did a poor job of tracking the separate parts of the goal. I did not meet the overall part of the goal to exercise for at least 30 minutes 80% of the time. However, I learned a lot from tracking the parts that I did track, and gained insight into better ways to set this up for next year.

3. By December 31, 2024, I will blog 3 or more times a week, and do a podcast weekly, except for Holidays/breaks.

I also did not meet this goal. 3/7x a week is about 44% of the time. I came close to meet the blog goal for this, with 43%, but did not meet the podcast goal, and also did not track them separately. I did have quite a few setbacks with technology for the podcast, which impacted how many episodes I produced, and may break an all time record on one of my blogs for the number of views this year. If not, it will be very close. So even though I didn’t fully meet this goal, I made such drastic improvements overall that I feel pretty good about it.

By December 31, 2024, I will complete at least 10 hobby projects, such as crafts, music, and photography.

I ended up measuring this goal as a percentage and successfully met this goal 17% of the time. I wanted to reach this goal 83% of the time and complete 10 projects, but I only completed a couple so I did not meet this goal. I’ll take about next year’s goals soon, but one of the things I’m learning is the importance of breaking each goal down into more manageable parts. Ten projects in a year is a great goal, but if it’s not broken down into small parts, I’m not likely to meet it. One of my focuses next year will be on building those tiny habits that are needed to successfully reach a larger goal.

The System I Use:

Sometimes people ask about the system I use for tracking goals and building routines and habits. You can read more about that system here: On Setting Goals and Reaching Them. I also recommend the following books in the New Year for setting and reaching goals!

  1. Start Finishing, by Charlie Gilkey
  2. Atomic Habits by James Clear
  3. Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg

I’ll post more soon with a recap of 2024 in our personal lives, and goals for 2025!

-Cindy
