Mid-July. Sometimes it feels like life is going by faster and faster. I remember my grandparents talking about this when I was younger, and I didn’t fully understand it then. I still don’t fully understand, but as life goes on, it feels like time is speeding up. Weeks go by so fast sometimes they are a blur, and it feels like we were just at Christmas and now we’re more than halfway through the year.
Health Updates:
Cindy:
A few months ago, I started having some pain in my abdomen. I’d been doing a lot of heavy lifting with different things around the house, and the pain kept getting worse. After seeking medical attention, it seems the muscles were straining too much, and I was at risk of another hernia. I stopped lifting and am on weight restrictions as I return to physical therapy this summer to hopefully strengthen my core and get things back on track. There was a lot of damage internally after the accident, and my abdominal wall almost burst, so there is a lot to heal and strengthen, even still.
Ben:
Ben’s neuropathy continues to get worse, spreading into his hands and impacting his fine motor skills. Mentally, this is challenging as well. It means Ben is not able to do as much as he could before, at least not in the same way. Ben has been open before about the depression he’s dealt with most of his life, and the health problems he’s currently facing impact his ability to handle things that used to be easier to handle, impacting his mental health as well. He has worked with a team of doctors to try to balance medication with techniques to help him cope with everything.
Wesley:
In the last post, I mentioned our dog Wesley having some health problems. He’s had a return trip to the vet since then, and is doing much better. The vet seemed impressed with the progress he’s made. He still walks with a limp, but has accommodated for the injury and is able to get around pretty well overall. We are hoping he will be with us for a while yet!

Trails From North Country
This summer, Ben and I hope to share some of our adventures through a new blog and podcast called Trails from North Country. I have a few posts started, I just need to wrap them up to get the blog up and running again. Between the accident in 2020, and Ben’s health, we’ve found ourselves looking for information on trails that would work well for people with disabilities. We still love to hike, and I can do most of the trails I could before the accident now, but some trails work better than others.

There was a lot of great information out there about the trails themselves. Their length, difficulty, time, and reviews from others. But we have been unable to find much information about how the trail might work for someone with a disability. Out of that, we decided to record our own journey and Trails From North Country came about.
More to Come
I will do another post sometime soon, but just wanted to give an update.
