Seasons Come and Go

It’s hard to believe how quickly this summer has gone by! I returned to school this past week, teaching online. The year is off to a great start, and I’m excited for another school year!

The last few weeks of summer have brought some much-needed rain after a hot, dry summer. We managed to squeeze in a few more adventures between storms though. I’ve shared a few photos below.

The end of summer welcomes in autumn, and harvest season. Fall is in the air! (I shared a few photos below.) This year brings in many mixed emotions, as this was the first year Ben was not able to do any Farmer’s Markets and hasn’t really been involved with the farm. We enjoyed a busy summer together. In past summers, Ben has had market and our schedule revolved around the Farmer’s Markets, and harvest time. With Ben not being able to do the markets anymore, it gave us a lot more time together for daytrips, outdoor adventures and relaxing together at home. We are so grateful for this time!

There is still a sadness and a loss that comes with it though. The reality is, our lives changed forever when Ben’s body began to be impacted by whatever he has. Sometimes it feels we are no closer to having answers than we were several years ago. As we enter into fall, Ben won’t be doing markets into the “apple” months. It’s a reality that feels so different and takes some getting used to. It’s a new season in our lives.

Like every season, there are ups and downs. Sometimes the ups and downs flow together, and it’s hard to separate the difficult from the good. Take winter for example, with all the snow it brings us here in the snowbelt. Snow clogs the roads. It makes it dangerous to be out, and causes people to get hurt if they slip and fall or get lost on a back road. Yet, it is beautiful. Snow gives children a chance to build snowmen, have snowball fights, and sometimes even get a snow day. It shelters the trees and shrubs from the harsh, cold temperatures and gives us a chance to rest and slow down. The ups and downs of winter come from the same thing; snow.

Come spring, we get a lot of rain to help the green things grow, and with that, comes mud tracked into the house.

Summer brings sunny days and growing crops, but the heat can also make it hard to be outside long.

Autumn brings cooler days, but it’s much harder to grow crops then. Each season has its purpose, the good and bad things that happen.

So we find ourselves in another season. We never expected Ben to be unable to do Farmer’s Markets in his 40’s, but that’s where we are. Yet with that, we are being given a gift. A gift of more time together, including full summer days.

Seasons come and go. Even this season we are in now will not last forever. What remains constant is our faith. We trust, we know that God has a purpose in this season in our lives, even if we don’t understand it. And that is enough, no matter what season we find ourselves in next.

Until next time,

Cindy
